Is Home

A good time was had by all. Way busier than we, or the towns, expected. Ran into lots of places being out of things, and there, it's so remote, there isn't even a grocery store. so if they're out, they're out till the next delivery. Like the gas station market -- the only place to buy food in town -- out of OJ till after Memorial Day. We really tried to do the walk to Calf Creek Falls, but an arrival, the small lot was full and people were parked up the side of the road and dozens of people were milling around waiting to start off. So we went to Capitol Reef instead. I was very domestic and bought an apron like my grandmother used to wear (been wanting one for years) and a rolling pin. My other purchase was the night prior when we ate at Hell's Backbone Grill, and was their cookbook. One of the owners even stopped by to chat and promised to sign it for me, which she did.

Speaking of Hell's Backbone Grill... OMG! It was one of the best meals I've ever had!! To die for. My brother made it my birthday dinner about 7 weeks early :) I would spend another weekend there just to have dinner there again. We went the next morning for breakfast, but unfortunately, it wasn't quite the same experience - the bottom of my french toast was burnt and the tea was lukewarm. But the dinner was so awesome, I wasn't too put out [g]

Yesterday, in Torrey, on the way back to Boulder, I went to open the passenger side door of the car, and it wouldn't open. so I had to clamber over the driver's side as the half the back seat was full of crap. So on the ride home today, we had two in the back, leaving the front seat clear. When we got back to our very rustic cabin -- and yeah, it really was rustic! -- I pouted until they let my build a fire in the firepit. I wanted a fire, damnit!! I even had to build up the back side of the ring with my own slate wall to do it. So we sat around the fire outside for a few hours drinking wine, with trips to the front of the cabin to look at the stars -- which were brilliant! It would be a great place to go with a bunch of friends and rent out all three cabins and have BBQs and go riding in the day and stargazing and campfires at night.

All in all, we did a lot of walking, eating, and driving.

Oh, yes! The coffee place in Torrey had 'Magnificent Seven' blend coffee! Yes, I took a picture.
