More About My Writing Than You Ever Wanted To Know

Pillaged from aeron_lanart, a veeeeeery long meme.

What's the last thing you wrote?
Part Nineteen!! of I Remember You Not Fondly -- the monster fic that won't die.

Was it any good?
I like to think so.

What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
I wrote a fictional diary of a girl on the Oregon Trail when I was 13. That's when I really locked onto the concept of wrting as fun and something I wanted to do.

Write poetry?
Does Lord of the Rings Haiku count?

Angsty poetry?
Nah.

Most fun character you ever wrote?
I think Methos is an eternally fun character to write. And Amanda.

Most annoying character you ever wrote?
I try not to write characters that annoy me but if pressed... Nick Knight, I'd say.

Best plot you ever wrote?
Probably 'Oaths'.

Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
Probably the one in 'Silver Service'. I'm told it blindsided most readers.

How often do you get writer's block?
Constantly.

How do you fix it?
I pretty much just have to wait for it to go away.

Do you type or write by hand?
Type.

Do you save everything you write?

Since the interent, yes.

Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?

It has been known to happen!

What's your favorite thing that you've written?
Quite a few. The first thing I ever really posted, 'A Ghost of Winter's Past' for sure, I'm also fond of a some of my newer pieces, like 'Santa Elena Welcomes You', and my current WIP, 'I Remember You Not Fondly' since it has forced me to write outside my comfort zone. Probably one of my favourite pieces was one that got very little comment, 'Takasago's Pines'. I was really proud of that one.

What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?

Oddly enough, one of the perennial favourites is 'A Ghost of Winter's Past'. I still get comments 12 years later.

Do you ever show people your work?

Online, all the time. I don't think people I know in RL would have an interest.

Who's your favorite constructive critic?
I have lots of friends who help me out.

Did you ever write a novel?
If I stuck all the stories in my 'Bloodties' series together, yeah! But not officially :)

Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
No horror! Even my vampire stuff aims for erotic, not horror.

Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
I do have a teenage character, but no angst so far. Romance, hell yeah! Or, at least, my version of it.

What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?

Easy one, incest. And I don't think horror would ever be my cup of tea either.

How many writing projects are you working on right now?

I always have virtual projects floating around, but concretely, I'm *this close* to finishing 'I Remember You Not Fondly', then there's the next story in the 'To Follow the West Wind' series, and the sequel to 'He's a Pirate' and 'Live to Tell'.

Do you want to write for a living?

It would be nifty, but so impractical.

Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?

Way back when, I wrote a vampire erotica story for an online magazine that was accepted, but the magazine went under before it was published.

Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Only fandom nominations for a couple of my Forever Knight & Forever Knight/Highlander stories.

Ever written something in script or play format?
I'd love to write a script.

What is your favorite word?

There's so many!

Do you ever write based on yourself?
That would bore the pants of off everyone! Of course, aspects of me show up in my writing, but they're not me.

Which of your characters most resembles you?
See above :)

Where do you get ideas for your characters?
They just appear unbidden. A gift of the muses, I assume.

Do you ever write based on your dreams?
Dreams often are fodder for my fic.

Do you prefer happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?

I think most people will tell you I'm an angst addict.

Have you ever written anything based on an artwork you've seen?
I've written things based on Japanese poetry. Specifically 'Takasago's Pines'.

Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Yes!

Ever write something entirely in chatspeak?
Ugh!!

Does music help you write?
Very much so.

Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?

Oh yeah! I'm constantly written off (no pun intended) because I write fic with the much vilified OFC (because all OFCs are Mary Sue's!! [gag]) and compound my sins by writing crossovers. But after 12 odd years, my reaction is somewhere between an eye roll and 'bite me' [g]

Quote something you've written.
I've always been fond of this, from 'Not Without Loss'.

Wearily, he closed his eyes, scrubbing at his hair in agitation. When he looked at her again, he held out his hand to her. “We’re going home now. Come on.”

Still she hesitated. “Methos…”

“Triona,” he warned, his voice once again becoming stern, “don’t push your luck.”

“Or what? You’ll shoot me?” Once the words were out, she regretted them. At the look in his eyes, she wanted nothing more than to take her ill considered taunt back.

“Do you really want to find out?” he replied coolly.

She didn’t answer immediately, carrying on an internal debate as to whether he really would shoot her if she didn’t cooperate.

The debate was interrupted by an exasperated, “Yes, I would.”

Glaring, Triona ignored the still extended hand, and pushed past the ancient Immortal in offended silence, his soft laughter behind her only making her feel more persecuted. He came up to walk beside her not saying a word, but she knew if she looked at him, he’d have that damn smug smirk on his face.
